customized Professional development solutions

The outside the box literacy difference

What you can expect from a workshop:

interactive

All workshops will provide many opportunities for teachers to reflect, explore, practice, and apply. After all, the best way to prepare to teach something is to do it yourself first.

Common core aligned and research backed

A unique feature of our workshops is the way they bridge theory with practice. Your teachers will leave knowing the why as well as the how. Each strategy or tool presented is Common Core aligned and backed by the most recent research on literacy and learning. Workshops will include recommendations for further professional reading.

Teacher friendly

Before becoming a consultant, Ms. Hawe was a classroom teacher for many years, and many times over the course of those years was on the receiving end of professional development workshops. She knows what makes a workshop useful and engaging and what doesn't.

Rigorous

The goal of all of our workshops is to lift the level of teaching and learning in the schools we work with. The strategies and tools presented in our workshops will challenge your students to think, read, and write at levels a worksheet simply can't accomplish.

multiple strategies, approaches, and opportunities for differentiation

Every teacher has had the experience of leaving a workshop thinking, "Those ideas were great, but they would never work with my students." Each workshop models how teachers can introduce strategies in multiple ways and differentiate as needed.

Quality materials

In addition to a customized slide presentation, Ms. Hawe will provide packets for workshop participants that include examples, rubrics, graphic organizers, book lists, and other resources that can be used in their own classrooms.

Classroom tested

Ms. Hawe draws from her experience as a classroom teacher and every strategy or tool presented is one she used in her own classroom. This allows her to anticipate issues teachers might come across in their own classrooms and proactively present possible solutions and modifications.

fresh and unique approaches to literacy

Your teachers don't need to take valuable time away from their classrooms to hear what they already know. Ms. Hawe will present new teaching tools and materials in a such a way that your teachers will feel confident using them in their classrooms the next day.

One Size Does not fit all

Outside the Box Literacy recognizes that no two schools, students, or teachers are alike. Every aspect of our work is tailored to meet your unique needs.
